Okey.be reports that the 12th edition of the Hockey Corporate Tournament had to be cancelled due to the unprecedented circumstances of 2020. Gaëtan Derenne expressed deep disappointment shared by organisers, clubs, participants and officials. With preparations already 80% complete by late March, the team had hoped to offer a joyful post-lockdown celebration — but the sanitary situation and scheduling constraints made the event impossible to maintain.

Why Postponing Was the Only Option

All rescheduling scenarios were examined, including a shift to September. However, field availability, uncertainty around mass events and budget freezes within many companies rendered the move unrealistic. Although few teams had cancelled at that point, it became clear that more would follow as companies faced unexpected challenges. Even without a government mandate, organisers recognised that participants would not feel comfortable attending a large gathering in June.

Looking Toward 2021 with Optimism

As highlighted by Okey.be, the entire edition is postponed to 2021. The emotional and financial impact remains significant, as all advance payments must be refunded while many organisational costs had already been incurred. Nevertheless, the Hockey Corporate team remains optimistic: the disappointment of 2020 will be transformed into an even greater celebration in 2021 — a moment to reconnect, rebuild and meet again on the field with renewed enthusiasm.
